Deps has been manufacturing PVC risers for connecting your hydrant to your Milnes main pipe line coupling for a long period of time. The reasons why you would use PVC as the riser is that when one of your tractor driver forgets about the hydrant in the ground and puts the grader blade through the riser and then they hear this horrible cracking noise, quickly coming to a stop and then that sinking feeling of knowing what they just destroyed. Luckily it was one of Deps PVC risers which have broken in half but the main line is still in tack and no damage done to it or the hydrant on top of the ground.
If this had been steel then think of what damage could have been done, but now less than $100 to replace it and best of all it hasn’t rusted in like steel would have but with a bit of elbow grease and a hammer it can all be removed for the new riser to be installed.
