What is Bentonite?

It is an Absorbent  Aluminium phyllosilicate, basically a impure clay , it is usually formed by  weathering of volcanic ash, and mostly in the presence of water.
Sodium Bentonite  is one of the major families it’s properties cause it to expand when wet and possible absorbing several times it’s own mass in water. Because of it’s excellent colloidal properties, makes this possible to be used as a drilling fluid in the drilling for oil, gas, water, geo-technical and environmental areas

Where does Bentonite come from?

It’s first discovery was in the USA around the 1890’s but it is now found in germany, australai, Greece, turkey and China but one of the puriest sources found is in Wyoming USA

What is the PH of neutral water?

= 7
Less than 7 indicates acidic
Greater than 7 indicates Alkaline

What is the Density of fresh water?

Density of fresh water is.  SG= 1

Why should I use Baroid drilling fluids and products?

  1. more than just the sack
  2. Environmentally safe.
  3. Consistant products.
  4. Backed up by world class Research and development.
  5. Baroid provide Application engineers not just sales rep.
  6. Provide full training around the world.
  7. Treat the problem not the system.

What are the biggest mistakes made regarding drilling fluids?

  1. order of addatives
  2. Failure of using Soda ash ( ph adjuster)
  3. Over use of product. ( A little is good, so a lot is better.

What  are the major critera  when drilling a bore hole?
Drilling is a intrusive action.

  1. Keep the hole as stable as possible.
  2. keep invasion and damage to a minimum
  3. keep stable
  4. remove cutting’s efficiently
  5. Cutting action to be correct
  6. have good solids control

What are the functions of a drilling fluid?

  1. Flush cuttings from the hole being drilled.
  2. Lubricate the drill string.
  3. To keep the drilling bit assembly cool.
  4. control Formation fluid pressures as needed.
  5. prevent loss of  fluids into permeable zones.

What costs of drilling is the drilling fluid?

The average cost is approximately 8% of the drilling cost, but has a great effect on all the other costs.

What are the Main Reasons for choose of drilling fluids and Company?

  1. Hole stability
    • ( sampling or Advancing)
  2. Hole Cleaning.
    • ( removing cuttings)
  3. Mud disposal.
  4. Environmental.
  5. Enviroment.
  6. Formation protection
    • A: Protect formation.
    • B: lesson fracture.
    • C: Core samples.-
    • D: Good bonding.
  7. Back Up-    “NOW! “   (no charge or cost)

What are the Major properties of a drilling Fluid?

  1. Mud weight.
  2. Viscosity.
  3. Filter cake. / Filtration of water loss / Wall cake size.
  4. Quality and type of the make up water used.
  5. Solids content control
